Many of you familiar with the usual look of my sidebar will notice a new widget. This widget is a NaNoWriMo word count tracker, which serves two purposes: it allows you, the (hopefully) curious reader to see what my progress is, and it forces me to actually write something.
For those of you who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, it stands for National Novel Writing Month, and I started participating last year (it’s one of my goals to participate this year).
During the month of November, participants write towards the goal of 50,000 words. It isn’t a race, it isn’t a contest; it’s just a way to get people (especially people who say, “I wish I could write a novel”) to start writing, even if they don’t finish.
I most likely won’t finish this year, but I’m trying anyway!

Are you (or have you) participated in NaNoWriMo? What was your experience like? For those who haven’t participated, what’s stopping you?
